Home composting is easy & fun – well, maybe “satisfying” is a better word! What other single activity...

    • keeps material out of your landfill,
    • conserves energy by reducing waste transport costs,
    • conserves water when used as a soil conditioner, and
    • saves money by reducing dumping fees and the need to buy soil amendments?

Learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle your kitchen, garden, and yard waste with Liz Stanley, UMaine Extension horticulture program coordinator and Hildy Ellis, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District program manager.

Liz and Hildy will demonstrate a variety of techniques for making compost at home - including aerobic and anaerobic methods - and provide tips on feeding your pile with the ideal proportion of waste, water, and air.

Handouts will be available for building a variety of bins, and there will be order forms to purchase reduced cost composters and accessories. Backyard Composting and Rain Barrel Sale

Program will be held inside and outside - please dress for the weather!
