Conservation Bus Tour

Every fall, in early October, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District sponsors a bus tour to local farms and other destinations of interest to those with conservation on their minds. Participants see conservation practices in action and how to apply them at home, learn about the benefits of local foods and farmland preservation, and enjoy the fall foliage as we travel through the beautiful midcoast landscape.

The tour includes a morning coffee/tea break (with homemade goodies!), a fabulous picnic lunch, and all the snacks you can eat. Along the way, knowlegeable tour guides are on hand to share information about the history and ecology of the area and answer your questions.

This year's route took us to Lincoln County - be sure to check back for next year's exciting tour of Knox County!

2011 Conservation Bus Tour: Spotlight on Lincoln County
"Nothing short of magical!"

Early on the clear, frosty morning of October 6, a hardy group of 31 Knox and Lincoln County residents met at the Conservation District office in Warren for the annual Conservation Bus Tour. This year the group traveled to four Lincoln County destinations:

The weather was glorious, the scenery was spectacular, the food was delicious, and everyone learned something new - whether about the relationship between erosion and water quality, the importance of conserving farmland and buying locally produced foods, companion planting and how to attract pollinators, or just how much cider you can press from not very many apples! As one participant pronounced at the end of the day, it was "nothing short of magical!"
