Invasive Terrestrial Plants of Downeast Maine

Tuesday, June 17, 5:00–6:30 pm | Orland Community Center
Register Below (Registration Required) | Cost: sliding scale $5–$25

This event is hosted by Native Gardens of Blue Hill in collaboration with Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust, featuring speaker Louisa Crane of Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District.

Ever wondered what the big deal is about invasive plants, how they got here in the first place, how they harm local ecosystems, and what to do about them? In this program, attendees will learn about the plants that are disturbing natural ecosystems and replacing the native vegetation that makes Maine unique and supports diverse wildlife, including birds and insects. We will cover helpful identification features for key invasive terrestrial plants in our area and explore control & prevention strategies, including strategies for how to prioritize management.

Workshop Leader: Louisa Crane, Program Development Specialist, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District

Louisa’s interests in conservation, ecology, and human interactions with the environment stem from her experiences growing up in Midcoast Maine. Upon graduating from Wellesley College with an Environmental Studies degree, she worked for the Wellesley College Paulson Ecology of Place Initiative, where she developed place-based academic, experiential, and recreational programs engaging students with nature and sense of place.
