Spring 2026 Live Staking Workshop Series

Maine Forest Service is offering a six-part live staking workshop series in partnership with local conservation districts and other organizations.

Live staking uses dormant cuttings from native trees and shrubs that root quickly and stabilize soil — a simple, effective restoration technique you can use at home or in your community. The interactive programs in this series will be led by Maine Forest Service District Foresters Jared Gregory and Allyssa Gregory. Participants will learn practical techniques they can apply at home, such as how to identify the right species for live staking, how to harvest stakes without harming the parent plant, and take part in a live planting demonstration.

Whether you’re a landowner, volunteer, or simply curious about conservation practices, this workshop series offers a great opportunity to learn by doing and connect with local conservation partners. Attend as many or as few workshops as you’d like!
