Program Development Specialist

Cindy Wright joined the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District after a full career in formal and informal science education. As one of the pair of Program Development Specialists, she delivers educational programming and technical assistance aimed at helping landowners, farmers, and various organizations conserve and effectively utilize their soil, water, forestry, and wildlife resources.

Cindy’s childhood was deeply influenced by Rachel Carson, WQED, and the 1970’s-1980’s Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. One of the most formative experiences of her life was a whole week at Beechwood Farms ecology camp, along with the entire 5th grade (THE best week of school, ever.) At the University of Richmond, she studied biology, chemistry, and secondary education. Those interests became a 25 year career in science education, both in public K-12 and at the Science Museum of Virginia.

After retiring, Cindy decided to go back to school, this time to learn about Sustainable Agriculture at Reynolds Community College. While she was completing that certification, she earned an MBA in Sustainability offered by Unity College. Since she and her husband already loved Maine, and in particular, winter, an empty-nester move to the Midcoast a few years ago made perfect sense. Her work at the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District beautifully combines all her experience and passions, including being a lifelong learner.
