Julie Sells

Office Manager

Growing up in Northeastern Ohio, Julie developed her appreciation for the natural world by exploring her backyard—a forested valley; swimming in a nearby lake and skiing at the local resort. In her role as Office Manager, she is pleased to support soil & water conservation practices and educational resources promoting healthy ecosystems.

Julie enjoyed a circuitous career path before arriving at Knox-Lincoln SWCD. She brings decades of office experience starting with working in Washington, DC for a US Congressman, a membership & policy association, and a long-term care trade association. Upon moving to Maine’s Rockport/Camden area, Julie worked for a local bank, Hurricane Island Outward Bound and Appleton Library. Establishing roots in Rockport has allowed her to learn about nearby habitats of a local marsh, the ocean, mountains, forests, and inland waterways, and work in many gardens.

Julie pursued many academic opportunities, including earning her A.B. in Political Science at Kenyon College, earning a Master of Arts in International Studies at University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in England, completing coursework towards a graduate degree in Health Policy at University of So. Maine and recently completing coursework towards a graduate degree at Goddard College in Masters in Consciousness Studies focusing on connecting to nature consciousness.

An avid learner, Julie also enjoys spending time outdoors -- gardening, hiking with her family & dog, canoe expedition trips, camping, kayaking, birding, laughing with friends, as well as reading, writing and playing flute. Frequently you can find her observing the vibrant riparian habitat near her home where you’ll find beavers, turtles, growing variety of birds & insects, bats, salamanders, frogs and an array of native plant and tree species.
