Terminal, spike-like cluster of deep pink/light purple flowers and narrow willow-like leaves on a tall stem. Found along roadsides, recently cleared woodlands (especially burned-over areas, which is how it got its name). Attracts bumblebees, hummingbirds, and hummingbird moths. ME
